There were yellow high-visibility jackets in abundance at Rosyth Methodist Church at 1.30pm on Palm Sunday 2012: police, official stewards, and even our friendly local press photographer, whose work duly appeared in the Courier the following day:

Printed in the Courier for 2 April 2012

The sun shone, and the small crowd of folk of all ages (and walking abilities) gathered in the car park to sing the traditional Palm Sunday hymn “All glory, laud and honour” …

… before following Sydney down the road towards the park …

… where we held a short service before returning home by a shorter route.

The walk was an ecumenical event, with representatives from most churches taking part. The singing was led by Rev Gilmour Lilly of Rosyth Baptist Church on guitar, and the service was conducted by Rev Tim Bennison.

And it was a walk of witness, with young people handing out palm crosses to interested onlookers.

But for some it was hard work …

“And ye beneath life’s crushing load, whose forms are bending low; …

… who toil along the winding way with painful steps and slow;
look now, for glad and golden hours come swiftly on the wing;
O rest beside the weary road …”
